When my mom was a child she remembers passing through her parents' kitchen
on the way to some kid adventure and being keenly aware of the yellow bowl
on the counter. She took her job of scooping and leveling the flour with
the side of a flat knife and packing down the brown sugar with the back of a
soup spoon very seriously.
